Aston Villa midfielder Ross Barkley could still return to Chelsea to play an important role for the team according to Blues boss Frank Lampard. The Chelsea manager gave Ross Barkley the go ahead to join Villa on loan from Chelsea for this season after it became obvious that he won't get enough minutes at Stamford Bridge this season.

Since his loan spell at Aston Villa started, Ross Barkley has impressed a great deal. His finest hour in a Villa shirt came in the shocking 7-2 win over Premier League champions Liverpool. Barkley scored one of the goals for Aston Villa at home to the Reds in what was a week four league outing.

The Liverpool game was his Aston Villa debut and he was able to link up well withfellow England international Jack Grealish. Ross Barkley made it two goals in his first Villa appearances by netting the only goal of the game as his team beat hosts Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. He has a total of two goals and one assist in five league outings since signing as a loanee for the former European champions.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard spoke to Ross Barkley last week to let him know that he has been impressed with the start to his Aston Villa career according to website 90min. Lampard believes that the Three Lions player has a future at the club.
Ross Barkley was forced to leave Chelsea in search of regular playing time after the club signed several big money attackers. The Blues invested in the team with the signings of players like Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech to boost their attacking output.
Havertz signed from Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga, while Werner joined from another Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig in a £53m deal. For Hakim Ziyech, the Moroccan was signed by the Blues from Dutch champions Ajax Amsterdam.
